As TT buddies updates at database on the TomTom server is it possible to log into this to see on the web where a TT is?
I wanted to be able to check how far the missus was from home (legitimate reasons Wink )

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

Does the "TomTom Home" software do this?

I've only heard of "TomTom Home" and don't have it myself, but I've seen some info on it and it seems to suggest that you when you run TomTom home on your PC, you may be able to look buddies up that way.

Please let me know if you have any luck with "TomTom Home", as there are other, more technical ways of doing it.

Cheers,

Richard.

Richard,

As far as I have been able to find you need to have the tomtom connected to the PC to get this to work. I wanted to be able to look at the position of others, or my tomtom when it was not connected to TomTomHome.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I've been thinking about what possibilities there are on this.

I've read myself that TomTom home still needs the "real" TomTom (PDA or all on one unit) for the buddies to work.

This means that there is currently no way of viewing buddies from normal PC's, even if you install TomTom home. You still need the TomTom navigator connected, which is not what you are after.

I may be able to write some software that simulates in a very basic way, what the TomTom navigator does when it's getting information about buddies. This software would run on a normal Windows PC.

As I only have TomTom PDA version 5 at the moment and that this version does not have buddies, I can't do it on myself.

What I need is someone who has got a TomTom navigator that has buddy functionality and for it to be connected to a PC using TomTom home. Then to install a packet sniffer like ethereal on that same PC.

That way, we could look to see if it's possible to simulate a TomTom with buddies.

Would you be prepared to do packet sniffing at all?

Cheers,

Richard.
