Recording, Exporting and Importing Routes/Tracks allow you to keep a record of your movements - position, time, speed, which can be used in many different ways.

The NUVI range does not have these functions, but do we really need them?

I think Yes or No is enough :-), but please feel to add your comments.

I really like these features on my Quest.

Does tracklogging and ability to import/export routes really not exist on the Nuvi?

Why are Garmin dumbing down their GPS units all the time? That sucks. Confused

I'm a high mileage driver and spend a lot of time in Europe during the spring and Summer months. This time of the year I troll around the highways of blighty trying to avoid bottle necks and long term road works such as on the M1 aided by TMC.
Routing has recently become an issue. I use routes that the nuvi would never think of as I know many traffic hold up spots on the nuvi routes in my home area of the South East.
The ability to set a route or remember a route you have varied to should be a must for a Sat Nav I've concluded with the UK road network problems.

This may make me unpopular, but I bought the Nuvi as a Car SatNav device, so I'm not bothered by tracklogs. However, I would like much better compatibility with Mapsource, especially with routes - I would definitely like to see the ability to import Mapsource routes (Mapsource can already send the route to the Nuvi, it simply ignores it once received).

It would be even nicer to allow the ability to create and modify routes on the Nuvi (like the new Zumo, which has a similar interface to the Nuvi).

Because they can get away with it!! Too many people impulse buy ,seduced by discounted prices and the need to get the latest "MUST HAVE" gadgets without really knowing all the different features that a SatNav can have and how they may be made use of ....One of my favourite sayings .."Buy in haste repent at leisure" Laughing .....Should have gone to PGPSWorld EH! Laughing

C'mon people - over 100 viewings and 9 votes? If you don't need this functionality, vote "NO". I promise that whatever the results are they will get to Garmin.

Having been a Garmin owner for some time, using the basic eMap at first, I am only now aware of the potential of the 60CSx. It has all the above functions while my more expensive iQue has only a limited number of those functions.

To sit with a laptop in my caravan, while on holiday in Ireland this summer and use all those functions really brought the whole potential of
the GPS to life!

Plan each day's visit on the laptop, transfer it to the unit.
Transfer the tracks to the laptop on the return.
Edit the tracks [for future use]
Join the individual tracks together or split them.
Convert the edited tracks to a permanent route to store or share with others.
Create new waypoints at exact location with altitude from track points.

I have the facility to view tracks from the day the unit was made in Taiwan to it's reopening in Garmin's home at Olathe, to the day I switch on [10th June] and every day I switched on since. The tracks [up to 10000] points are stored automatically on the micro SD card and backed up to PC.

If I received a speed camera fine I could check whether I was there!
I doubt if the track could be used legally, as it is possible to manipulate the track!!

So do you have a contact in Garmin then?

Yeah, but not everyone out there is as geeky as folks like us. Wink

It's the nature of the job I'm afraid. I'm not saying that they would listen, but as far as I understand they do not consider this feature to be essential in the mass-market devices and as you've quite rightly said not everybody as geeky as us. I would love to have these features, but I also suspect that the majority of Nuvi users will never use them.
