|

I'm sure this has been asked before but....
Is there a way to install TT5 on the SD card so that in the event of my Ipaq needing a hard reset for example, I can then run TT5 straight from the SD card?
Thanks. |

As I understand it although you can install all the maps POI's etc to the SD/CF card TT requires it's basic files to be in the PDA memory. So no. |

Any suggestions/advice how to recover TT from the SD card if Ipaq problems. If I'm out on the road and TT goes down would be great to be able to get it up and running. |

The following works on my Mio P350 and as you are using TT I assume it will be the same.
Open the backup of your SD Card on your Desktop and add a new folder, I've named mine New Folder (original eh?).
If you never saved a copy of TTN5.21 update, download and save it now before going any further.
Now look for the TTN.CAB in the saved navupd521 update folder, it's in the Pocket PC folder, and copy and paste to the New Folder. On your CD's look for GPS.CAB, PIMAddIn.CAB, and a voice .cab. e.g Jane is engf.cab. Copy and paste these files into the New Folder.
Now right click on one, choose properties and tick the box to make it Read Only. Do this with each of the files. (If you don't do this the files will vanish into thin air after being used and you won't be able to use them again without going through the above proceedure).
You can now copy and paste the New Folder to your SD Card.
In the event of a battery failure, plug in car charger or mains adapter.
Switch on and go to Start - Programs - File Explorer.
Second line from the top, it will probably say My Documents, tap to the right of the Mobile icon and select Storage Card. Now tap on New Folder where you will see the cab files.
Tap on each cab file, one at a time, and install each one.
Everything will now be running as normal except you will have to re-setup your Speed Camera warnings/distances. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Two words!! .. "SPRITE BACKUP" it will restore every thing lost from the volatile memory.

Yes, the programme has good reports but is it really worth paying for when you may never use it?
Doing it the way I prefer may take slightly longer than using Sprite, in the event of a flat battery, but as I'm a tight wad, no Sprite for me. :P _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Great, sounds good. Will copy all the files and see what happens the next time TT will not work. |

Hi jonmat
A Backup programme is the most important thing one can have on their PDA. I have Sprite (there are others that supposed to be as good) and believe me when I say that it’s a blessing from God.
Flat battery? Hard Reset? Everything gone and you are stuck in France and about to enter Paris? no problem for Sprite. In two minutes all will be restored, Bluetooth settings, Wifi settings, and all programmes and away you go.
I wouldn’t be without it. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I've used the PPC2003SE built-in backup software to back everything up to an SD card. Using the restore function, I have successfully restored TT5 to my PPC following a hard reset and have been up and running again in no time.
The built-in software may not be as good as Sprite or some of the other packages out there, but it gets the job done for me. |

Hi Rybren
Fair enough, we both use a Backup programme. And the fact is that as long as one backs up the PDA one cant go wrong. Yes, backup, it’s of the utmost importance.
One should never land up in the embarrassing position (like jonmat) and have to reinstall Tomtom when arriving back home. By then ones holiday may have been ruined. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Agreed. Backups are essential.
Just curious, do you know if Sprite will backup things that the built-in software misses? I'm assuming that the built-in misses something, what, I don't know.

Hi Rybren
When I purchased my first PDA and TT3 I used the Backup programme already installed on my Ipaq. As a test run I done a Hard reset, tried to restore and everything failed dismally. It was that episode that made me splash out a few quid and buy a proper backup programme. And as I have said before, it backs up everything and restores everything. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
