hi I've just bought a Garmin nuvi 310d and downloaded the speed cameras as POIs (I think!) per the instructions on this site.

My question is how do I get these to 'activate' on the actual sat nav system, will they flag up automatically or do I have to change the settings? I can't actually 'see them' in the 'custom POI' menu so have I done something wrong?

Welcome to the forum, once you have downloaded the database you need to unzip the files to a specific folder, then use POILoader to install them to the device.
If you have done this switch on the 310 and tap Where To? then tap My Locations followed by custom POIs and you should find a list containing the speed cameras, they will read pocketgps_uk_gatso_20 etc depending upon which file set you downloaded (I only ever use the speed zoned file set).

For a demo of how the device works when driving keep the GPS aerial closed and select where to, My Locations, Custom POI, pick a camera category followed by the camera at the top of the list then hit the green GO button. answer Yes when asked for a simulated route you should see the icon appear and the alerts should appear/ sound -

As it is a new device please back up the units contents to your PC before doing anything else, also you should then update the unit to the latest software which is currently version 2.90 - Mike
