|
|
I borrowed a TT1 this weekend and have decided to buy an all in one satnav.
I want to use it as a handsfree phone so the TT1 is out.
Tempted by the Garmin Nuvi 310.
Is it a good buy?
Which is the TT equivalent?
Which is best?
I was very impressed that the TT1 volume was good enough for high speed driving in an open top car.
Is volume as good on the Garmins.
Volume is important (1) for phone calls and (2) for speed camera warnings because I've got a few points already.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks. |

hi mate,
it all comes down to a personal preferance, the tom tom seems like a dieing breed at the moment.
the nuvi 300+310 are AMAZING pieces of kit and garmin are getting larger and larger in the UK as far as populatity goes,
as for volume my nuvi is pretty loud only let down is you cant turn the mp3 player up to the max s it has no bass - problem solved by having a cd player with an Aux in for an mp3 device :D my garmin now stores the mp3s and they play through the head unit!
the garmin is also alot more pretty! and easy to handle.
however its best to pop into a shop and if possible try them both!
hope that helps in some way

Please can someone explain in non-tech speak how I can get my Garmin Nuvi300 to play my MP3s through my car stereo/speakers?
I believe that Garmin can supply a special wire that achieves this? |

The older TomTom GO range has a far superior speaker. The newer GOs are disappointing in this area. _________________ Lutz

Having used both a Nuvi 310 and TT910 I've found when mounted and used in car the TT910 to be much louder and clearer.
If you're going to be using your GPS as an MP3 player outside a vehicle (which I don't) then you may find that the Nuvi could be louder as the 910's speaker is mounted on the base of the unit (this isn't an issue when it's mounted)
As to which is best TT or Garmin it is all a matter of personal preference, for some will say one and others another.
It is certainly a real exaggeration to say that TomTom is a dying breed. At present TT is by a long way still the market leader, Garmin did make some inroads with the Nuvi series but there have been real problems with the TMC traffic receiver sold with the 310D by Halfords. Also the introduction of the new TT One has meant that Halfords have had to drop the price of the Nuvi 310D.
Although it's not a like for like model comparison for several reasons I've found I much prefer the 910 over the 310.
In my opinion the routing is more direct and less down tiny single lanes and although the maps used by Garmin are supposedly more up to date I've not a found any problems at all with those on the TT. Also the TT is far more user configurable and the display information is far superior.
The one clear advantage the 310 has over the 910 is size, with the Nuvi being truly pocketable. However this may not be the case when the larger Nuvi 660 becomes available.
As has been said before the best GPS hasn't yet been produced, but somewhere out there there may be the best one for you. The best advice is to visit a store which allows you to try some hands on shopping. |

Thanks for the "off-topic" replies, but my question seems to have been completely ignored! |

Sorry RDS, you are correct.
I was just frustrated that my sole question got lost in the melee! |

Suggest you start a new thread specifically for your question. You are much more likely to get an answer if you give it the correct heading _________________ Peter
