Hi,

I have posted before regarding my i3's redraw rate beibg poor, especially using 3D map mode.

I had updated to firmare 3.10, however rolled back to 2.7 following the good advice on this site. Things improved slightly, but I still found that 3D mode was slow and sticky, so I mostly use track up.

I did however buy two new i3's for use in my work today (2.70, pre loaded maps / no transflash) and decided to do a back to back test!!

I put both in the car at the same time and went for a drive to see what happens.

The difference was unbelievable. The new unit operated seamlessly on 3D map mode, with the screen scrolling smoothly at all times in small smooth graduated steps. On the otherhand mine seems to stick and jump from location to location, in some cases I had driven approx 1/4 to 1/2 mile before my unit caught up with the new one.

I have to say that I am really disappointed as is seems that update 3.10 had really screwed up my i3. I don't think this is acceptable on a two month old unit.

I am going to contact Garmin and ask if they can either replace the unit.

Any views??

Thanks. Evil or Very Mad

Others here have noticed the i3 not going back to its original status after reverting back to 2.7. The hope is that the next firmware update would cure these issues Idea Idea Idea

i did find that v3.1 recalculated a fraction quicker but took ages to get a sat lock from cold.....whereas v2.70 gets an instant lock and seems much more stable..

Hi,

If this is the case is there any way of totally formatting the i3 and doing a 2.7 installfrom scratch??

Thanks.

you dont reformat the i3, all you do is reload v2.7...you will loose all your favorites so be aware..

I have done that, but it seems that the reminants of 3.10 must remain, thus causing the problems.

Maybe a hammer will solve the problem.

I wonder if its down to the audio version loaded? I have 2.70 with audio version 2.00. I think if you upgrade to 3.10 the audio version is also updated. Does this revert back to 2.00 when you go back to 2.70?

I went back to the shop and complained about the unit not operating correctly.

Luckily he has a unit that someone nicked the transflash from and has kindly offered to swap it for my unit.

I checked it out and it works fine, has FW 2.60 installed, which is what I think mine had originally.

I will pick it up tomorrow.

Should I upgrade to FW 2.70 or leave 'well alone' with the FW 2.60 installed.

Is there a list of the pros/cons of each firmware version??

Thanks.

It is well known from these forums (I just can't find the old thread) that reverting back to 2.7 would still leave some of the screen lag issues on the Garmin. Sorry Zogman but a lot of people here had a similar problem.

Maybe we should ask Garmin to withdraw FW 3.10??? in order to save others from messing up their units.

Strange how the new ones that I bought yesterday with the built in mapping came with 2.70.

I would still upgrade to 2.70 but no further. 2.70 is by far the best. I seem to think 2.70 fixed a bug in 2.60 to do with the address search

Found list of changes:

Changes from 2.60 to 2.70

1) Add City selection step for address and intersection searches.

2) Corrected error in extended postal code searches that would cause
the same result to be returned for different searches and prevented
the result from being added to the recent finds list.

3) Detect driving away from route more quickly.

4) Disable the detour option on the main menu when satellites are lost.

5) Updated text translations for Swedish, Polish, Dutch, Portuguese,
Spanish, Czech, and German.

6) Fixed a problem where a user's scroll position was lost after long
searches.

7) Prevent language changes when user inserts a data card for a different
region.

from my own personnel experience, i have not had any problems reverting back to v2.7 from v3.10 ,still with audio version 2.5.....i have no noticable screen lag problems and the unit works fine....i understand that some people might find a difference in the i3 screen lag performance but i dont....
