I've only had my Tom Tom One for about 6 weeks and today it won't switch on even when it is connected to the mains. I've tried the reset button but no joy. Is there anything else I can do before I go back to the shop?

Thanks

When you try the re-set button, are you holding it in for at least 10 seconds?

If not try it again and keep it pressed for at leats 10 seconds, that seems to clear the problem.

Hear, hear.
Also it may be worth considering that as it is only six weeks old, you can insist on a new replacement and not a repair.

I took my Tom Tom One back to PC World and they agreed it was dead! They said they would arrange for a repair. NO NO I said I require a replacement or a refund. No they said their "procedures" don't allow for that. HANG ON I said I have bought this item just over 6 weeks ago and it is not "Satisfactory Quality" (reference to Sale of Goods Act 1979) therefore according to the said act I am entitled to a replacement or refund. WE'LL GET THE MANAGER they said. MANAGER ARRIVES - I repeat myself and explain either I get a relacement or refund or we can have the same argument when I call him as a witness when I take it to the small claims court. REPLACEMENT PROVIDED.

This farago only serves to re-enforce my decision to avoid this store when I can. I would have bought the item from John Lewis but they don't stock the TOM TOM One.

PC World is offering the 910 at £499 - the exact price that John Lewis is offering - NO CONTEST - Go to JOHN LEWIS.

Good for you.

But, this practise is not limited to any one store, they all do it, although some more than others.

Personally I have never had any problems with PC World.
On the odd occasion of returning a product (even one that was 11 months & 25 days old).

I managed to get a replacement for a TV that died after 12 months from Argos.. they didn't put up a fight at all.

Most places will try it on but you just have to be a be awkward. If they start pointing to signs that say 'no refunds on xxx' or 'product xxx is excluded from our guarantee' then ignore them as your statutory rights already cover that & they can't remove that right.

Never had any trouble from PC World either... it tends to be the smaller shops that are the problem ones.

PC World have the 'collect at store' option. You reserve the device at the web price (£430 or thereabouts) then drive over to the store and collect it & pay web price in-store.

I use that option for everything I buy these days - saves a fortune when I need PC stuff.

chances are it wasnt even faulty.

if it happens to anyone elses ONE or GO (not the new range) then try:

connect the device to the mains charger then press and release the reset button found on the base of the device.
if the problem persists connect the device to the mains charger then press and hold the power button then press and release the reset button then release the power button.

has worked many times for friends and colleagues.

No response required to this post - I'm just putting it here so people can get to gpsn3wbie's post quicker when it's indexed by a search engine (tomtom one problem switch +on).

I bought a TomTom One a few weeks ago - and for no apparent reason it wouldn't switch on. I noticed that the green power LED came on if I plugged in the power lead, I also noticed that if I held down the power switch for 4s, I get the big red TomTom logo for 1s and then it cut out. For some reason it had to be plugged in to the power before holding in the reset button for 10s worked. Thanks for that gpsn3wbie.

I wonder what cause of the problem is.
