Not sure whether this could be done (I don't even have a TomTom unit to play with !) but...

I need to know if its possible to construct a link via an external app that feeds a destination into TomTom 5 (in a similar way to a google earth link) on a PDA.

There's a long story behind it, but there's a requirement for the "POI" data to be held in an encrypted form, but I want to be able to use this to set the waypoint / destination directly if possible...

Can anyone give me any pointers - is it possible ?

TIA :-}

Oldboy gave this as a suggestion in a previous thread. Use Autoroute and save as an Itinerary.

Do you mean a Program like ITNConv, which can be found here

you can also use the API calls that are described in the SDK documentation. You don't even need to buy the SDK for that if you are ok with Linux shell scripts.

Thanks for the replies - the only thing is, there are probably 15,000-30,000 (i'm waiting for details, it may not be that bad...) "waypoints" that I could do with being able to search on and navigate to directly - not sure whether that would be possible with an itinery - or whether it would be possible to encrypt the itinery so they're not readily available should the unit be lost...

I'll have a look to see if I can find any API links - they sound like my best bet, i've never having done any programming on a PDA (or used any API calls), so I could be in for some fun :-}

Thanks again !

erm, sorry. I didn't read correctly. For the PDA you don't use Linux shell scripts. But you can still do the same file based communication without the need to purchase the SDK.

Thanks - the SDK documentation appears to show it does what's needed, so i'll see if they're up for a little coding :-)

Its a system that is / has been introduced at work, but they have some major performance issues at present - I have had no input on specification or hardware, and probably don't know enough at that level anyway to do so.

At present, I am lead to believe the *entire* mapset is being encrypted, which I suspect is the cause of the problem (taking time to decrypt), so if I can find a way to seperate and encrypt the POIs - then using standard map data - it might help resolve the problems...

I'm guessing - without having any comparative performance references (which i've suggested doing), removing the processor / memory / memory card bandwidth overhead of decrypting should go a long way towards making it usable.
