The sucker on the base of my I3 failed today. Unfortunately, because of the glare in my Zafira I usually put it just under the rear view mirror. It fell from there to the console by the gear lever.
This has put a big crack in the LCD. It seems to be just the screen has broken, as it makes all the usual noises.
Anyone know where I can get a new LCD screen and how much? I have tried the Garmin site and found no mention of spares or repairs. I have also tried Ebay and searched via Yahoo.
Or is it case of just a bad day, bin it and get a new one ? |

Cheers, thanks for both your replies. I will give them a try on Monday.
I live about two miles from their offices in Romsey which may be handy if they can help. The trusty Vauxhall will get me there. |

Hmmm. Interesting. Same thing happened to my Nuvi yesterday. I forgot to unmount the Nuvi from the cradle and left it on overnight. The next morning, mount was on the dash and nuvi was on the floor with a crack.
I'll be calling Garmin tomorrow. Good luck to us! |

I e-mailed someone from Garmin. They have given me a returns number and they will look at it and get back to me. Once I have sent it back and got a reply back I will post a further reply saying hat happened. |

Well I don't know what experiences people here have had with Garmin U.K. But, I am really happy with them. I got my unit back today, they have not only replaced the screen but provided a new sucker mount. All free of charge.
The turn around was really quick I only took the unit into their Romsey office on Monday 21st, and got it back today via courier.
They responded very quickly to e-mails, and when I dropped the unit off they were polite and friendly.
It makes a change to find customer care of this level. It's all to easy for companies to refuse help under the circumstances he unit was damaged in. |

I fully agree with northamsaint, about the level of customer service and after sales care provided by Garmin.
In the late 1990s, I bought a Garmin GPS 12XL, whilst on holiday in Jersey. The unit failed just after the warranty had ended. I was at a Land Rover show and I spoke to a chap on the Garmin stand. He said that the failure I described was a known one and that I should contact Garmin Head Office in the UK.
When I got back from the show, I rang up Garmin and they said to send it back to them. A couple of days later I received a brand new unit in a box.
By the way, here’s a picture of a Garmin GPS 12XL, which is now discontinued:

To be honest I am wondering if the whole unit has been replaced. It was in very good condition to start with, as I am a bit fussy about looking after things. On return it even had a packing screen protector over the screen.
Also, when I fired it up it went through the set up routine you get the first time you fire it up.
I was really expecting an expensive repair or instead replacing it. |

Good news, northamsaint. :D
The more I hear about Garmin customer service the more sure I am that, when it's time to replace my i3, I'll buy another Garmin. _________________ Anita
