|
|
I would like to remove the useless menu options, and searched and found talk of tomtom.mnu file in the SdkRegistry Folder which can be edited in notepad to do this.
On my TomTom ONE I cannot find any .mnu files, or an SdkRegistry folder ?
Is there a different name/location for this on ONE, or can anyone tell me how to customise menus another way. _________________ --

This forum really needs a decent FAQ !!
Right, I created SdkRegistry folder and copied a tomtom.mnu file into this and it works, but I cannot generate the original tomtom.mnu to start from.
I have searched and searched but cannot find a list of all the menu item descriptions.
Can someone post the std TomTom ONE tomtom.mnu or a full list of the menu items, so I can setup my own pages.
I understand I only need to create main pages, and a preferences link, and the preferences menu will have everything else ? Is this right ? _________________ --

Having sorted this out myself, so hope it would help others to post this. I do think there should be a FAQ thread 'customising menu's containing all this, and a full list of the menu item descriptions, and a number of 'standard' layouts (ie with POICapture, with traffic etc) so people can pick from a few layouts, and customise from there easily. Also the std layouts for each model should be there too.
TomTom ONE standard menu's seem to be laid out very oddly, things you need most are on later pages, and things most people won't want (connect phone, weather, traffic etc) which 90% of people will never do, are spread across pages annoyingly.
I chose to reduce main menu from 3 pages to 2, and remove all the junk, so my preferred layout is as follows:
Main menu 1 of 2
Navigate to | Find alternative | Browse Map
Change Prefs | View Route | Next Page
Main menu 2 of 2
Advanced Planning | Itinerary planning | Add Favourite
Manage POIs | Manage Favourites | Next Page
Instructions to do this are as follows.
1. Either using USB cable or card reader open your memory card.
2. Create a folder called SdkRegistry
3. Create a text file inside SdkRegistry
3. copy/paste the text block below into this file.
4. rename file tomtom.mnu
As I said, I have laid the menu out so the things I use most are closest to hand, so if you don't like this you can just edit the tomtom.mnu file in notepad, moving lines up and down or between pages as you wish.
MENUBLOCK|BLOCK_MAIN|BTM_GPS_POSITION|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE1|Main menu 1 of 2|
MENUITEM|TASK_NAVIGATE_TO|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_FIND_ALTERNATIVES|
MENUITEM|TASK_SHOW_MAP|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_PREFERENCES|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_ROUTE_INSTRUCTIONS|
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE2|
MENUPAGE|TASK_PAGE2|Main menu 2 of 2|
MENUITEM|TASK_MENU_PLAN_ATOB|
MENUITEM|TASK_ITINERARY|
MENUITEM|TASK_ADD_FAVORITE|
MENUITEM|TASK_MAINTAIN_POI|
MENUITEM|TASK_MAINTAIN_FAVORITES|
MENUITEM|TASK_PAGE1| _________________ --

Just found a very good link, this explains menu file structure, and gives a list of all available items, so is what I was looking for in the first place.

You could use this online menu builder BUT it will not work for version 6,15 specific functions such as Ipod, Nav to Lat/ Long etc as these functions are missing as yet from the selections available, it would be OK for a simplification of the existing menu though - Mike |

Thanks, but I found this menu builder weeks ago, but it is so slow and awkward to use I gave up. I thought about downloading the standalone version, but its a 23Mb download !
Editing your own tomtom.mnu in notepad is MUCH easier and quicker, as long as you can find a starting point - which hopefully people can above.
If the menubuilder was a small download, and started with current menu's and allowed you to move buttons around and output to a tomtom.mnu text file it would be fine, but I felt editing the tomtom.mnu in notepad is easier and quicker (and I did it with ONE in front of me, so I could compare the current menus with what I wanted). _________________ --

Have played with this in the car, and realised not having 'clear route' is annoying. I don't think I would ever use itinerary planning (it doesn't seem to do shortest routing between multiple destinations anyway, so seems useless unless you are sending out van drivers with a pre-configured itinerary which I won't be).
Anyway I have swapped 2nd item in Page 2 from Itinerary planning to Clear Route by editing the file and changing:
MENUITEM|TASK_ITINERARY|
to
MENUITEM|TASK_DELETE_ROUTE|
Which I think is better. _________________ --

Quickest way to create a "notepad.txt" file is to open a folder where you intend to keep the file.
Right click your mouse on an empty space in the folder and from the drop-down menu, select "New" followed by "Text Document" then re-name it to what ever you want. _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |

Your welcome
Personally I'll stick with http://www.skux.net/tomtom/menubuilder2/index.php
With just re-creating the first 3 pages with what and where I want on them. (You can have any number of pages, you're not stuck with 3).
It also gives the option to have various text on the menu bar.
My first page shows "1/3 with My Name"
Second page shows "2/3 with My Post Code"
Third Page shows "3/3 with My Mobile Number"
I know by leaving the other 6 pages alone some are repeated on the first 3, but I want quick easy access at the start, plus I think I found a couple were not available from the list so disappeared and were essential if altered
tip: Try to create the menu in one go without doing a pre-view.
why: When I previewed then carried on, and then finished, I found that trying to access all of the menu was not as straight forward as it should have been. _________________ (If it ain't broke, I can soon fix it) |
