Up to date Maps for TomTom

I am about to buy a TomTom 910 or ONE and want to know how to tell if the maps are up to date. Do they put version numbers on the outside of the box.

Also when are the next map updates due?

I had a 910 for a week when they first came out in May and found no great improvement in the map over the 700 I bought in December 2005 (I dumped the 910 for other reasons and am back with the 700). It seems they were still using maps from about April/May 2005, at any rate they haven't offered any updates since those (I first got a GO300 in May 2005 and never got any update).
According to the Tom Tom website in May 2006, they were to bring out a map update programme in the second quarter of 2006, which you may gather started in April and ended in June. However, the most recent website information is that the update program will commence during quarter 3 of 2006, which you may gather is already half way over!! I have a voucher for a free map upgrade for my 700 and it expires at the end of September. I have my fingers crossed for it to happen inside the next two weeks, before I go to Europe for first two weeks of September.

The maps on the 910 are from January 2006 (TeleAtlas released them in January, release 2006.1). These are TomTom map version 6.5.
The ONE has maps from October 2005. I believe the maps have version 6.0
