|
|
Briefly:- Had Q1 for a year with City Select v7, great bit of kit. Got a Q2 a few days ago with City Navigator NT v8 but screen takes a long time to re-draw.
Registered my Q2 as second unit and loaded City Select v7 maps hopeing it would re-draw screen quicker as it doesn't need to decompress the maps. Still no luck.
On way home from work this morning doing 85mph screen is going blank for 300yds at a time waiting to re-draw. Twice I 'Overtook' the maps and it had to re-calculate on just a 6 mile stretch!!
I exited left and aproached the roundabout and voice command said 'Take second exit' as it normally would. Screen went blank and didn't re-draw until 50 yards after the roundabout so would be no good without voice command.
Could it be a faulty unit?
Help please. |

I Know you should not have to but have you tried turning off autozoom and setting your own mapscale ?
Is the Q2 the same as the Q1 in that when you install new maps they wipe the old ones from the system ?

Are you using the latest firmware? The 2.40 and 2.50 ondes were worse than the current one (although it's still a problem). _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

According to my Quest i'm using 2.80.
I'm gonna take both units to work tonight and see how they perform side by side.
I may well be selling a Q2 soon or asking Garmin to swap it for a Q1. |

Elsinga,
Whilst going through the Q1 and Q2 to make sure all the settings are the same I noticed in 'Map Info' that my Q2 is still running NT maps even though i've loaded V7 maps via mapsource.
I've just un-installed Mapsource from my pc and will re-install up to V7 when I get home from work later tonight.
Should the V7 maps replace the V8 maps by loading them onto my Q2?? |

The NT maps are preloaded and non-removable. Just switch them off if you want to try using CS7. BTW, I already did that and it was a minor improvement with firmware 2.40 and 2.50, but almost not noticable with 2.70 and 2.80. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )

Are you saying that a Q2 with CS7 (non NT, was there a CS7 Europe NT?) is slower than a Q1 with the same mapping? _________________ Chas

Yes. Not very surprising though, the Q2 has to deal with custom POI's where the Q1 does not. And I suspect that the firmware code to use the NT mapdata is also slowing the Q2-with-CS7 down a bit. _________________ Robert Elsinga =8- )
