My Micromaxx/Medion/Mitac 168 has fallen to the well documented failure of the charger socket/connector whatever it is called. The unit is only a few months old but Somerfield no longer stock them and cant replace it, and Medion wont supply a replacement to Somerfield in order for me to exchange instore. Medions attitude is `yes we know its a common fault but tough, we will repair it but not replace it` but depending who I have spoken to the turnaround varies from 10 days to 56!!!!!!!!!..Has anyone else had this problem repaired satisfactorily by Medion and if so, how long did it take?
Also, any suggestions on how to repair this myself cos I really cant be without my satnav for long anyway?.

I too had the charger socket problem. Was out of guarantee and miles away from home up in scotland. Rather than ruin a great holiday I elected to solder the unit myself and then araldite inplace to complete the fix. Worked great for about 4 months of constant use. Sitting in a drawer awaiting repair again.
Newer models seem to have a brass pin in the base. If you do take it apart, the conection is not the easiest to solder.
Best of luck. |
