5 series "free driving" mode?

The icn330 manual makes reference to a "free driving" mode that shows your location on the 3d map when you don't actually have a route, but the 530 manual doesn't make any reference to that mode that I could find.

Do the 5 series units have a similar function?

yes, works ok. Comes up with alerts for speed cameras as you are driving along and shows where you are on map. Shows current speed if you select that option in bottom right corner. See other threads about daft noise it makes for speed alerts.
