|
|
Annoyingly I have noticed that all (most) the miomap POIs seem to be out by 100-200 yards. To the point where they are actually shown on incorrect roads. They all seem to be in the "area of" but wrong!
Maybe even more annoyingly, the cameras seem to have loads of duplicates and very rarely do they have a direction.
I don't suppose there is any way of rectifying this? or is there a way of dowloading someone else's POIs? That's that thread about POIhandler right?
cheers

If you want to see a really bad example of duplicates, go to N51.5931 W0.23416 on the A41. It shows 5 cameras around the same place at a location where the PGPSW database shows only one.
I believe that these duplicates are due to the fact that the Mio sync process 'steals' individual updates from your unit when you connect.
And yes, that's why we all want to be able to import our own camera files.

Hi Alex
I contacted Mio-Tech about this when I found that nearly every petrol station was offset by 100-200 yards and they referred me to Tele-Atlas (the map and POI provider). According to Tele-Atlas, we as the users, must report POI "misplacement" via their web site! :x
I suggest you read some of the messages in the TomTom forum -- it makes very interesting reading!! There are lots and lots of angry users on there who've found that the POI's are unreliable -- and their maps and POI's are provided by guess who!!
If you want to report a POI that is misplaced, here's the link to the beta TeleAtlas site: http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/cfl?ClientId=MapInsight&Language=en&PlaceFindCountry=USA&PlaceFindPlace=Boston&PlaceFindAdministrativeArea=MA
...just enter the address in the side and then look for the POI -- if it's out of place on here, enter the details at the bottom...
Whether they actually read any of this stuff is another matter! 8O _________________ FuzzyDuck

Doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.

I'm still optimistic that it will happen before too long. There are three options:
1. POI Warner are definitely working on it, even if not all of their support staff are aware. The Mio units are very popular on the continent (just look at gpspassion) and POI Warner would be foolish not to support them.
2. iGO version 3.2 (which will become MioMap 3.2) includes a direct import facility.
3. In the unlikely event that neither of the above happens, someone will produce a private import routine. I actually got 50% there, and if necessary will resume and finish the job.

Thanks FuzzyDuck. I've sent an update to tehm to let them know that there isn't a petrol station in someone's garden on athe wrong street.
The only thig is, assuming they do something with this information (we shall see) how are we Mio cX10 users going to then update our POIs?
cheers

It is a bit disappointing. One of the reasons I went for the Mio was that it had TeleAtlas mapping and I was led to believe that they were more accurate for Europe than Navteq.
In France on Saturday quite a few POIs were out by several hundred metres. (eg: There is a large aquarium in Boulogne-sur-mer called Nausica, which has been there for years but is completely wrong on the maps)
Also around my address in London there are 3 incorrect petrol stations, 1 opposite where I live in a Synagogue, 1 that is 200 yards down the street and around the corner from where it should be and another that closed 2 years ago.
As this has been my sole experience it doesn'y bode well for the future.
I had a Garmin 2620 previously and never had a wrong address or POI with the Navteq maps.
On the bright side I am glad it is Teleatlas and not Mio because the same problem will be affecting Tomtom, Pioneer etc |

One of the things that has disappointed me with my new 510e is the inaccuracy of speed limit notification. Admittedly some limits may have been changed recently but others which are showing incorrect have been in force for many years. I've yet to see a 20mph limit showing on the Mio. _________________ Reg |

I agree. Unfortunately, this is a TeleAtlas issue again as they have added speed limit information to the digital maps they supply.
I think we (as users of the C510/710s) are one of the few groups of people who have this feature available on our GPS units. There are a couple of other units out there that have the facility, but it isn't always visible on-screen. I can just imagine what will happen when this feature is available on the more popular units (like the TomTom) -- I personally can't wait. The more people who complain, the more notice the mapping company should take!
But of course, when a council or authority decide to move the road signs and re-grade the road speeds, I wonder whether their procedures include informing TeleAtlas/etc? _________________ FuzzyDuck
