I am needing some suggestions on the best possible solution for using my iPaq with either a CompactFlash or Bluetooth GPS receiver on lake maps. I have used the Pharos system before, and was not totally satisfied with having to load several maps to continue using the GPS on a long road trip. This probably would not be a problem, however, with lakes.

If at all possible, I would like to avoid scanning in maps and then using those for GPS purposes. I think it'd be best to have GPS software that comes with lake maps (particularly Texas lakes).

I currently have a 3800 series iPaq with a CF expansion pack plus (extra battery). CF would be good, but another topic said that Bluetooth is better because it will acquire satellites w/o the iPaq being turned on.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ben

Ben, Have you looked at MapTech maps ? www.maptech.com ? Also Fugawi may be a good choice, we have a review of Fugawi at http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/fugawice.php

Had lousy experience with 2 Bluetooth TomTom GPS receivers.

Apparently there is now a Bluetooth fix for the IPAQ 2210 & 2215.

Got shot of the Bluetooth receiver - went back to hard wired and it works like a dream.

Methinks the Bluetooth technology is not sufficiently stable in this product.

The Bluetooth receiver still needs to be wired into the car's electrical circuit ( for more than 4-5 hours battery life )- so it's not truly practical wireless.

Stick with the wires and skip all the problems.

Cheers
