|
|
Hi All
New to the site, am looking at getting a Tomtom Go 700.
I really hate having leads all over the place in the car and wondered if you can hardwire the car charger lead, rather than plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket all the time.
Can I just cut the end off and connect the the red to a switchable live and earth the black or is there a bit more to it than that?
Thanks. |

Please DON'T do that. You'll fry your TTG. It runs on a 5Vdc input. _________________ Richard

Thanks.
There must be something in the car charger lead that converts the power, or as soon as you plugged it into the lighter socket it'd fry the Go.
All I want to do is hardwire the charging lead, not hardwire the Go, so I don't have to plug it into the lighter socket all the time. |

The step down electronics are in the charge lead. You could hard wire a cable from the fusebox with a cigarette lighter socket on the end and connect the GO lead to this. All the wires could then be hidden. I have done much the same in my car for all my powered cradles. I used a cigarette lighter extension cable from Maplin, cut off the plug end and wired this to the accessory output on the fusebox (I also added another fuse in the cable for good measure). _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren,
That's exactly the route I'm taking to get my TTG wired up on the motorbike.

Most cars generally have a spare slot for accessories. Alternately you can take a feed from an accessory such as the cigarette lighter power line. As always though, ensure you add a fuse. _________________ Darren Griffin |
