Makes me glad I have a TomTom, I was thumbing through various reviews and did a search on the product below.
Has anyone ever seen a product get such a mauling as the viaMichelin? Although there are not a great many reviews on this product those that are available are pretty scathing. I think the final summing up in one review said it all - if you want to find just about any address then don't buy this product, rated at 2 out of 10. If these reviews are only partly true then one has to wonder why a company of this stature ever let this apparently flawed product go to market. |

to be honest i had the viamichelin before graduating to a magellan roadmate 300 (which the wife now uses) and now have a ttg700 and i actually liked it much more than the magellan it was a bit footery to use as mine was pda based with a bluetooth gps receiver which had to be replaced after 4 months but other than that i found it to be efficient at what it did and the only annoyance i found was the power supply had to be attached all the time it was in use as the pda battery only lasted 30 mins on navigation and on occasion if you let the battery flatten you had to reload the maps via the pc as the memory was dodgy but that may have been down to the pda |

While I am influenced by reviews, I do tend to take them with a pinch of salt.
A recent review of CoPilot 6 in one of my PC mags 'missed' practically all the problems you see reported in this forum, yet complained about a certain feature not being present - a feature which had been there from the initial release!
Also, when comparing features between competing products some of the features I consider essential were not mentioned, yet others which were given prominence were of no interest to me.
I have even bought products which have apparently had terrible reviews, but when reading through the lines it seemed that they contained everything I needed; and I have discounted products with rave reviews because something I needed was not present. In each of the cases I can say that the reviews helped me make the right choice for me - but presumably it would have been the wrong choice for the reviewers.
I think my point is that a single review should only be a factor in your buying decision, and not the reason. |

Reviews in publications, especially those that don't specialise in the area, should always be considered a guide and not a definative report.
Not long ago a computer mag reviewed several units inc a TT One and made a comment that the Garmin i3 was the only one with full postcode search!
Just shows that its worth doing a bit of hunting round and read stuff from a few different sources. |

In the descending order Mio - Garmin or TTG, ViaMichelin shouldn't even enter the race - both the hardware and the software are not very good to put it mildly. |

I loved my Viamichelin when I got it but then it was better than what I had before i.e. nothing. My Father has a TT One which is way better, the biggest difference being full post code search and newer maps. Great news pda with viamichelin died last week so i'm getting a TT 510 instead:) |
