Sorry if this has been covered, but I tried a search and couldn't find the answer...

I'm just back from France and noticed that when driving through a large tunnel, despite losing my GPS signal, the map display would grey out but continue to scroll at the same speed I was travelling at. When I came out the tunnel, after about two seconds, I would regain my signal and the map became colour again, although the position was spot on.

Does the TT just scroll at the same speed as it was when it lost the signal and guess (correctly in my case) or is it more complex than that ??

The original Go, the 500 and the 700 actually have accelerometers that try to work out what the vehicle is doing.

TomTom GO keeps up with you, even without proper GPS reception for a short while, e.g. in tunnels. This is accomplished by a sensor system that measures your movement, called ASN (Assisted Satellite Navigation)

It was left off the Go300 and the One (to save money), so those units just carry on at a steady speed for a while.
Apparently ASN never worked terribly well and the simple guesswork does work quite well, as you found out.

I don't know if any of the new range have ASN. I checked the online manual, to see if it is mentioned, but in a classic bit of TomTom-ism it says

Many more preferences...
Not all preferences are described in this chapter. There are many other things
you can change to make your GO work the way you want.
The best way to find out about all the preferences is to try them. So go ahead
and give them a go.

In other words, we can't be bothered to write a proper user manual, so you're on your own! Evil or Very Mad

Cheers Andy.

I thought that would be the answer, but it crossed my mind that it may just be something very clever. Clearly not ! My TTOne does have an icon in the preferences for "Disable ASN" but it is greyed out, but there again so is "Docking Preferences" and there aren't any of those on the One. It must have been too much like hard work for Tom Tom to create a menu specifically for the features that the One has, rather than the features it hasn't !

Thanks again.

Tommo.
