Loading U.S. maps to a TTG700

I am trying to load maps of south western usa on to my 700 with great difficulty anyone know of a tutorial for this and secondly will it work in the U.S. as i thought of taking the wife's magellan roadmate 300 with me as it takes an sd card for the maps but the european model aint compatible in the U.S. what a rip off and being a tight scot i dont fancy paying $7 a day to hire one over there any help would be appreciated guys.
