Hi,

My adaptor, its like the one in this pic...

http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_images/602.jpg

Its over heating and the unit will loose power (green light will go out, also tomtom says power turned off) but it will come back after 8/10 sec then off, on, until i let it cool down.

So does anyone no were I can get a female/Dell Axim X5 adaptor like the one above! The female one from that site does not list X5 as an option.

Dam this hot weather.

Thanks for reading

Also open to DIY ideas.

Sounds like your car transformer is gone, not anything to do with the connector.

I would sugest you get a replacement power load ASAP, unles you know what your doing with electronics there is very little that you can do from a DIY front, I would make sure the nose of the unit (where the sprung loaded plunger is - i.e. the bit that goes into the cig socket on the car) is fully screwed on tight, they can work loose on some devices, also if fitted check the fuse, its normally behind the nose connector as defined above, unscrew it (watch you don't loose the spring) and make sure that isn't blown.
If the unit goes total short circuit it will fry your equipment as it contains voltage regulation equipment to controls the cars 13,8V (Typ value) down to 5V (usually), so I would seriously consider replace rather than repair, unless either of the above two faults manifest themselves - if you do mess with it and get it wrong you stand a good chance of distroying your device! - Mike
