Hi everyone,

I got my TomTom Rider two weeks ago - so far I'm almost totally delighted with it.

I say almost, because the battery life seems much shorter than the 5 hours stated in the features list. 50% shorter. Sad I know I can use the power cable to connect to the bike's electrics, but that only sidesteps the problem.

When I charge the Rider, the battery level indicator never quite reaches the top, it's one or two "bars" off. It starts to flash yellow after one hour of use. It dies after about two hours and twenty mins, but powering it up again gives another 10 mins.

I left it on charge overnight last night, but it still gave the same performance today. I turned Bluetooth off to try to eke more life out of the battery - it did make a difference, but not that much. Anything else I should be doing?

I'm thinking this isn't normal, but I'd like to check other owners opinions before I try sending it back for a replacement.

SB

The Rider uses a Lithium-Ion Battery and don't have a Charge Memory like the Ni-Cad Batteries do.

It shouldn't be necessary to fully Discharge/Re-Charge.

I'd say you have a good case to take it back and get a new one.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was out yesterday on the bike, bluetooth on with the headset and my phone connected... the low battery warning came on after just 40 mins. I was only out for an hour, but by the time I got home, it was down to the red warning.

I'll be contacting the vendor concerned on Monday to enquire about sending it back and getting a replacement. Glad it's not just me that thinks the battery should last longer.

No. Depending on circumstances, you might be too late to have all your money back after this time, but the trader will still be liable for any breaches of contract, such as the goods being faulty. In fact, the trader could be liable to compensate you for up to six years.
