Hi,

I'm looking for a bluetooth gps receiver that will be compatible with my newly acquired i-mate jamin.

What specs should I look for?
e.g. sirf III chipset, number of channels?

What is the safest BT gps receiver to buy (if there is one)? I don't want to particularly spend too much time mucking around.

hi welcome to the forum

the things to look for are sirf3 most new receivers now have this chipset

the other thing is battery life

thats it really there are receivers on the market that are capable of over 24 hours of continuos usage from a single batery charge

suppliers such as globasat, raikaline and holux are a few of the popular makes

peronally i can recomend the APOS626 which usually gives me atleast 6 hours usage from each charge of the battery not the most dazzling around but it has proved very reliable

thanks!

I've browsed through some of the manufacturer specific forums and seen some warnings against some receivers, eg. Holux 236 (or some such).

Is there no "daddy of daddy" BT GPS receivers that is known to have all the features under the sun?

How does the Tom Tom BT GPS rate?

the tomtom gps is ok battery like is around 4-5 hours. I do have one these my self and so far it has been very reliable

i think from looking at the forums with regaurd to the holux 236 problems that the problems seam to relate to grey imports bought from an ebay supplier

I know one of the moderators has 2 holux 236's bought from uk suppliers and as he hasnt had any the problems discribed in the forums so if your thinking about going for the 236 thn my advice would be to go to an approved uk suppier

i dont think youd need all the features under the sun to honest it really does depend what you are going to use the receiver for if its just for navigation in the car and a little bit of walking then any any of the SIRFIII receivers on the market will do what you want as you wont need a datalogging function of something from like the Delorme datalogger a feature like this will really push up the price of the gps
