Hi all,
I was wondering if I could seek some advice/opionions. I have just taken delievery of a SPV M5000, which although a little large, is fantastic to use as a PPC.
However I tried to install Tom Tom 5 on it and lo and behold it wont work !!
I have untill next Thursday (22/06/06) to send it back, and then I can upgrade to something else.
Therfore my post is two fold.
1) Can I get Tom Tom working on this model or is it impossible ? Tried all the posts I can see but it still crashes :-(
and
2) If not does anyone know if the other current SPV models will run Tom Tom 5 and therefore should I send the SPV M5000 back ?
Your opions / assistance are greatly appreciated
Thanks
Tim |

It should work. Make sure you are using the latest version of the software, IIRC TomTom 5.21.
Please give some details of your difficulties, "it won't work" doesn't give us anything to work with. |

My apologies.
It goes through setup for Tom Tom asking for Language, then confirmaiton. Then selecting Left or right Handed. Then imperial or metric distances, time and then the voice you need.
I have selected the "Jane" voice and it hangs for a few seconds. At which point it takes you straight back to the today screen.
Sorry for not giving more details earlier and your assistance is greatly appreciated, as I think the handset is brilliant. |

Tim, TomTom Navigator will most certainly work on your device (its the same unit as my XDA-Exec, and it works fine on that), is the install you are trying to perform from TomTom supplied CD? or is it a pre-installed SD memory card? - Mike |

Hi, well it is from a CD. However I have managed to get this sortred. Here goes the story:
I went into the Orange shop to find out what I could get to change ,my handset to, and told the guy what had happened with my SPV. He said I have an SPV M5000 also and have Tom Tom working fine on it !!!
So I asked for his help, and on my second visit (After work, as opposed to lunch time), he fixed it !!!
Basically what he did was create a word file in the My Documents\tomtom directory which simply had "tomtom" written in it. Apparently this gave Tom Tom the ability to write to this directroy, where, I believe the config is held. After this it worked a treat, and to cap it all the screen resolution is so much better than my h4150 !!!
So thank you everyone for all your help, the speed of your responses was awsome. I really appreciate it. Thanks guys ! |

Thanks for coming back and telling of your success and how it was done. So many probably get the problem sorted but never tell anyone else.

Well I hope that it will mean more people get to keep the handset, instead of getting frustrated with it !!!
Seems so annoying over a simple little fix like that !
Thanks again for everyones help. |

Well You see there are various solutions to installing tomtom on WM5. The best possible way is to install the 4 individual cab files on any WM5 running machine and tomtom then creates all the possible folders. |
