Hi, I'm getiing a new car soon with a coated windscreen, my tomtom go works fine at the moment but I'm sure I'll have problems with the new one.

My tomtom is one of the originals, so I'm struggling to get an official external antenna..... what do you think about this one from Maplin?

http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?MenuNo=1428&MenuName=GSM+%26amp%3b+GPS+Antenna&worldid=5&FromMenu=y&doy=8m6

cheers.

Welcome

it looks fine but i dont know what connector type is on the GO, TomTom just say its a customer type. that maplin one has an MCX type.

this one will work with your GO though.

But your main problem is going to be that there is no "proper" external aerial connection on the Go. The official TT external aerial comes with a new mounting "shoe" with an extra co-ax socket on it. This then goes to a flying lead with a reverse SMA connection in the cable and onwards to the antenna itself.
If you cannot get hold of the Classic version, it IS possible to convert a 300/500/700 version to fit in your original Classic mount though. Here is the link to show you how....

Update....

Bought an new external antenna from ebay for the 300 etc. Go for £25, and converted my classic mount using the info. from andy_p2002...cheers!

hence I have a Go 300/500/700 mount going spare, without the antenna connection!
Anyone want it for free? Drop me a line and we'll come to some arrangement for postage. :D

Idea I got my TomTom Go and I love it! I also bought the rather cool permanent docking kit for my new TomTom. Got it for only 45 quid from this place:

What do people think of the permanent docking kit?
