|
|
I’m considering whether to get a Garmin Forerunner 305 HRM/GPS, or get a cheaper, non GPS, HRM (heart rate monitor). My main consideration is possible interference from a radio mast, located on a hill where I train.
I’ve suffered varying interference on HRM watches (non GPS), between the chest belt and watch. Analogue transmission watches seriously suffer, digital transmission HRM’s far less so. The Garmin is digital, so I’m less concerned about the chest belt to watch transmission, but far more concerned about interference on the GPS side of things.
I’ve no idea what the mast is transmitting. It’s 30m high and covered in aerials and dishes, but it’s not military, afaik. And I've no idea what format GPS transmissions take.
Hope you can help. |

Aye Captain,
Due to the nature of GPS, it's signals are fairly immune to interference from other transmitters. The GPS radio frequencies are also fairly well protected (no high power commercial transmitters use adjacent frequencies) because GPS is so important. I have not heard of or experienced any problems with interference.
The main problem with GPS is that it doesn't work so well if you are surrounded by tall buildings (think of Oxford Street in London for example) or under heavy tree cover.
You should be fine. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Nothing to worry about then. Thanks.

Some of my course is under trees, but apparently the 305 has improved aerials, or some such, and is pretty much foolproof under trees compared to previous versions - as testified by user feedback at runnersworld.co.uk |
