Hi, I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on a problem i have with my pda/gps setup.

I have an iPAQ hx2110, TomTom Navigator 5.0 and a GlobalSat BC-307 CF receiver. When i launch the tomtom software it takes an age to get a fix, even with the external antenna connected. Once it has a fix it will lose it again at irregular intervals, sometimes within seconds, other times within a few minutes. It then takes up to two minutes to get another fix.

Tomtom is configured as Other Cable NMEA GPS, set at 4800 baud and connected to CF_CARD GE.

I tried soft reseting the device after plugging in the card, then starting tomtom, and i tried starting tomtom and then plugging in the card and it's still the same.

I ran Winfast Navigator and TTFF on a cold start is 50 seconds average, with TTFF on a warm start at 6 seconds average. Once it has a fix in the winfast software, it will stay there all day, varying between 3 and 8 sats.
To me, this rules out a fault with the card, and points to something in the tomtom setup that is causing the problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Steve

As listed in the first post, the reciever is a GlobalSat BC-307 with SiRF-II chipset. It doesn't have any problem getting a fix in the Leadtek Navigator program, only when using tomtom...TTFF is not so much the issue...it's more the fact that it won't maintain fix when it's got one in tomtom.

if you move the ipaq out of the car does it get a fix

The iPAQ is an hx 2110 Smile

Have tried it inside and outside the car. The config screen shows as many as 6 grey bars, it just never gets a lock. I'm convinced its an issue with the tomtom software as a lock is obtained use gpsinfo2003.exe, and also using leadtek navigator...which also gives me a fix in the house! , even if it is a weak one.
