Its sad really that we are getting quite a few unanswered question's for our members, on this page alone there are 7,it must be really frustrating when one has tried every angle and still can not get there item to work,as I am finding ,it is a pity that the manufactures can not reply to some problems that we are experiencing when our own members can not help.Still it is better than not having a help forum as hundreds have been helped and the percentage of failure to get advice is low even though that is no consolation for those with problems.

I've found that recently, as the forums have got more and more popular, and as SatNav has gone from a specialist (slightly geeky?) product to be used by more and more of the (less computer orientated) general population, that more of the posters are a) posting in a forum which is not specific to their problem, b) are not posting a good explanation of their problem or c) not searching adequately before posting their question.
I don't want to seem to be anti-newbie, we were all newbies once, and I'm sure that if someone cared to look back at some of my earliest (or possibly not so early ) posts they would seem pretty naive, but I think that we are victims of our own (well, TomTom/Navman/Garmin's) success - the "(less computer orientated) general population" don't necessarily have experience of using forums, and may be a bit 'bamboozled' by them.
I think a good example is when somebody posts a question, doesn't know to use the "Watch this topic for replies", doesn't know that if they go into their profile they have a "Find all posts by ..." function, can't remember exactly which forum they posted in, can't remember exactly what they typed - so they can't find it by searching, and post the question again. The double post can then attract the wrath of the old hands/mods ( Yeah, I've posted "didn't you like my other answer" type messages ), but does lead to confusion and lessens the chance of a successful solution. The poor OP hasn't seen the original helpful(?) replies, so thinks "humph! unfriendly/unknowledgeable (I'm sure that's a word!) lot they are" and doesn't get a reasolution. An experienced forum (but not SatNav) user, will be more at home, know how to search, etc. The "Read this first" type sticky posts will attract their attention, but won't necessarily grab the attention of the forum newbies.
Just a general waffle, I'm afraid I don't have any magic answers, but I'll continue to help out where I can :D

how was my comment negative? I just made the point that members should only answer if they can contribute to the solution. So if a question goes unanswered for a while then this means nobody knows the answer. You may not like that, but things like that happen all the time.
Newbies will never read the FAQ, or use the Search button. Our site lives from the fact that the same questions are asked over and over again. So be it. At least in those cases we can answer with a solution. _________________ Lutz
