I am using TomTom 5 (with latest patch) on my HX4700 with a Globalsat BC-337. I’ve just used it for a great trip to the Lake District with the Speed Camera POI database installed and it worked brilliantly.

On every subsequent trip since then however, it has slowed right down. My position on the 3D display used to update about every second making it easy to navigate around complicated junctions. Now it only updates about once every two to three seconds causing me to miss some tricky turns. I can’t be sure if it’s the GPS receiver getting the position data slower, TomTom asking for the data less often or TomTom just running slower.

I have tried resetting the IPAQ and ensuring there is plenty of free memory. The signal strength on the GPS is usually at maximum so that’s not the issue. Is there a setting in TomTom or on the GPS receiver that would slow down the polling of the satellites? The only change I’ve made is adding a few POIs from http://www.tomtomfree.com/ but these are far fewer than when I added the Speed Cameras which worked fine.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,

Go to Change preferences/ Manage POI/ Enable Disable POI and de-select the POI's that you have added to the device, then set them up for warn when near instead. This is a well known way of slowing down the device - Mike

Wow! Thanks, that worked a treat. I've now diabled all POIs and kept just the speed cameras to warn and it runs smoother than I ever knew it could! I only use the other POIs to navigate to anyway.
