With TomTom, if you do an upgrade it just overwrites the current Files with the new ones. _________________ Richard

Hi junger,
As with all updates, I recommend that you backup your PocketPC before you do the update. If you haven't already got it then get Sprite Backup. Once you've backed up your PocketPC to your storage card, copy the entire contents of your storage card to a new folder on your PC.

If you use the full version of Sprite it will backup the entire PPC and the storage card to the PC every day, with restore putting everything back as it was. _________________ Graham.

I bought Sprite Backup Premium Edition in September 2004. At the time they offered a cheap upgrade for all iPAQ PocketPCs for just $11.75 USD. This is because the standard backup software that iPAQs come with is a basic version of Sprite Backup.
I had a quick look around the Sprite website and I can't see that deal any more.

The Premium Edition 3.1.4 was the last release, the new one 5.1 is only suitable for the Win2005 operating system. _________________ Graham.

Having never tried Backup Manager from Sunnysoft I don’t know how it would compare if tested against Sprite Backup Premier. However, I do know about Sprite backup Premier and I must admit that its brilliant. It will backup everything and restore after a flat battery or hard reset even when you are stranded on Dartmoor in the fog. And by everything I mean everything. Bluetooth settings and everything else is restored back as it was at the moment of backup. Couldn’t do with out it. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I have used both, but chose Backup Manager after waiting many months for sprite to add WM5 support and of course cost. Both get the job done equally well and even have very similar options and interface.
As you say, create a self extracting, compressed backup file on the storage card and the entire device will be restored in a matter of minutes after any calamity away from the PC, even if the device has been formatted by a hard reset.
Excellent safety net solution for road testing new software and configurations as Privateer suggests. |

I can vouch for Sunnysoft Backup Manager it does a full restore from a self extracting exe off your storage card which is brill when you are in the middle of nowhere and your bat dies 8) |

Hi Mullet
Ok, I have read your opinion regarding Backup Manager and it sounds fine. However, way back when I purchased Sprite Premier I hadn’t heard of Backup Manager.
If I had read your view of B/Manager prior to my purchase I would have probably brought B/Manager.
But ther you go, we live and learn. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.
