Newbie - map updates and stuff.

Hi there. I have just purchased a Garmin i3 from Halfords. I am very happy with the unit and have downloaded the cameras etc from this site. All is well.

I have a couple of questions - apologies if they seem a bit dull and obvious to some - all very new to me

1. How do you get map updates? I have used my unit on a new road (built and opened within the last 3 months) and the unit thought that I was driving across a field! Do you have to pay for these updates and, if so - where from and how much?

2. Points of Interest. I have worked out how to get the cameras working - but is it possible to have other poi displayed and being notified - such as car parks or Tescos etc. By this I mean being displayed on screen every time you pass one?

Sorry if these sound a bit thick - but any advice would be most helpful and gratefully recieved. :D

If you have version 8 maps (and you probably have) you have the latest version.

Map updates are only done annually so you will have to continue driving over the field for a while. You will have to pay for it when it comes.

You can check you map version on the main menu by going to map source.

If you find you have version 7 maps you can have a free update, if you do a search on this forum you will find out the address and system.

You will not get other types of POI to display on the normal map page as Garmin think (rightly IMHO) this would clutter the already small screen.
