TomTom One upgrade query

I'm about to buy a TomTom one, but with the new maps and firmware imminent I'm considering waiting until these are released.

To check I understand things correctly; If I buy a TomTom One now, and the firmware and map upgrades are released in a few weeks time then this would be a chargeable upgrade ?

What I'm not sure about is what happens if TomTom release the new firmware and maps, and then I buy a TomTom One in a shop a few weeks later and find that it has the old firmware and maps installed. Would you expect the upgrade to v6 to be free to people who bought a unit after it was released, or only if the unit actually shipped with this firmware ?

The software is free anyway, it's only the Maps that are charged for.

Last year I believe there was a period of grace when recent purchases could be upgraded for free. If, and how, this might be implimented this year, only TomTom knows the answer.
