Hi all......

Having found this site and mooched around a bit, i'm hoping that someone can give some advice as to which gps system(?) i should go for.

For use in the car and maybe when we are out and about (walking etc), so portable would be good.

The 'old' Tom Tom's look like a good bargain at the moment, i'm also interested in the Sony range. Having said all that, we had a flyer drop on our door mat yesterday from 'Staples' (the stationers).... and amongst other models they are pushing out the Magellan RM300 at £199.

Not knowing too much about any of these makes or models, i'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on what i should look be looking for, and, if indeed this offer from Staples is infact a good buy.

Cheers all for a great site.

Nick

if your thinking o useing a tomtom or sony unit for walking forget it ( im assuming you want ot do a bit hill walking to) the tomtom and sony units are for street navigation only for walking youll need OS maps if your inerested in tomotm then have a look at at a pda system and then youll need some OS mapping one i can recomend is memory map

mmmmmhh..... Question

ok, lets leave out the walking bit then.

On a useability / reliability / future proofability (?) / update-ablility, which one would you say is a good buy, and which would you avoid like the plague....?

And is the Magellan rm300 such a good offer, as i dont see many of them around, but the few write up's i've managed to find rate it quite highly.

Thanks for your input so far.....

Nick.

Don't know about the Magellan, but have both a Sony and a TomTom. Frankly, the TomTom One is the one I'd buy today if I had nothing, unless you are desperate for free but dodgy traffic info (in the sense the reception of it on the Sony is patchy to say the least.)

Or wait for the new TomToms of course...

Thanks for the reply Dippy.

Have just this second posted that i've gone and bought the Magellan on a 14 money back trial...! (this trial can be had on any gps system they sell apparently..... the managers dont like it, but it's their head office that enforces it). So, i thought i'd give it a go.

Smile

Saw your post about that just after I'd posted on this thread.

Let us know how you get on!
