|
|
Hey everyone,
I've had TT5 for about 6 months or more running on my Nokia 9500, i bought it directly from TT.
Every now and then I'll connect via the Nokia 9500 and check for updates.
The last one was V5.20 which I installed with no problems.
My question relates to the Maps.
I have the original GB one it came with and noticed that on a couple of trips it took me across some fields where the road should've been, not very good.
Version details I have are :-
App Version 5.200 (443)
GPS Driver 1.20
Map GB V562
I've seen several mention different versions of the GB map which are higher than mine, but when I look on the TomTom website it doesn't state a 'latest version' nor when I check on the 'Check update' feature on my mobile.
Am i right in thinking TomTom whats me to keep paying €59.99 each time they release a new map of GB and how do i know what the latest version is?
Isn't the €299 I paid for the software enough for them?
Thanks in advance |

TomTom don't expect you to buy each compilation of the Maps. However accurate the 'latest' Maps are they will always be errors because of the rate at which changes are made in 'real life'.
TeleAtlas make the Map Data available several times a year, whether or not they have every last (uptodate) detail in it. TT buys, and then has to compile that data, into a format that can be used by it's programs.
This means that the finished article can be over a year out-of-date.
I, personally, am not too bothered by the occasional error and only get the yearly Map Updates.

TT has, up to now, given free Program Updates after the original purchase. The ongoing cost is for the Map Information which TT itself has to pay for. _________________ Richard

So do they make it availale to download from their site?
The map updtaes i've looked at are for purchase only, theres never a link for existing customers to download the latest Map even through the Plus Services.
Some on here have mentioned Versions 570 etc, how do they download the latest map or are they bought? |

The yearly Updates come about May onwards each year. Last year they cost about £40. The Maps that users refer to as having higher numbers are downloaded from TT Website and paid for. _________________ Richard

Ok Thanks Oldboy.
I don't mind paying for that providing they don't keep updating every few months.
Once a year for a Map upgrade is fine or every 6 months at a reduced cost.
Just wish they'd tell you what the latest version actually is.
Thanks again |
