Is TTN5 Software backup on SD Card possible.

A day trip to Lille on Saturday, first time with France Street level mapping, which will be helful finding where I parked the car having spent all day to-ing and fro-ing. (Don't ask about previous experiences). Embarassed

My main worry is, should the battery go flat, evidently after only 2 to 3 hours, I'll have no Sat Nav home.

I seem to remember someone saying, but can't find it, TomTom program software could be put on the SD Card so should the battery go flat all I have to do is plug into the 'lighter socket' and re-load TomTom.

If this can be done, I assume I'll need to take my Product and activation code with me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you're using a PDA, then use Sprite backup software and make a self-extracting backup to the SD card. When you've found your car, plug in PDA to cigarette lighter, search SD card for backup file, tap and Viola! All is restored. No need for any codes at all.

The way to carry the software with you at all times is to create a folder on your memory card and place readonly CAB files into it for TTN 5,21 you will only have to carry two files, you run these files by launching file explorer on the PDA and TT will be back working, this will wipe out any fancy voice warnings and settings you have made but it does work - belts and braces, use a decent back-up utility (Sprite springs to mind) and carry the CAB files on the SD card. Thanks Mike. Right then. I've found the two files tomtom.cab and ttn.cab. Does it matter which one I run first?

Using Sprite is easiest without having to re-install or re-activate.

You just need the two CAB files nothing else (note prior to TTN5,21 there were four CAB files for the installer), but make sure they are set to read only, otherwise when you run them they will self destruct (well disapear anyway), it doesn't matter which order you run them in and when ever I have tried this you do not require to reactivate, so leave the code card at home safe.
I use Sprite back-up on one device (it is very good and well worth considering), but I carry the CAB files as its a quick method of installing just TomTom.
