|

Hi
I bought my etrex vista C in December last year and ordered CitySelect v7 Europe Navigation kit from Aspidshop. They shipped it with the v6 disk, with a letter saying v7 was out of stock and would be sent as soon as it was available at no extra cost. This week they sent City Navigator v8, telling me that v7 is discontinued. As v8 was released in January, I am not entitled to a free upgrade. Despite numerous emails to both aspidshop and Garmin, I have been unable to get hold of v7. I feel angry that I am unable to get the software I ordered and was promised, and will have to pay again if I want to upgrade the maps. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall! As I did not purchase the product in the UK, I don't think the normal channels of advice will help. Any suggestions on how I can get what I thought I'd bought?
Thanks! |

City Navigator V8 is the latest Garmin product which has now replaced the out of date City Select V7. Sound like you have got a better deal than you anticipated when you bought it. _________________ Kam |

As to the sale of the wrong version I have no advice!
But, whether you have v6 or v7, if you ever want to upgrade to v8, the upgrade price is the same - £52 for two unlock codes [unlocking two units]
Both v6 and v7 are out of date. The difference between v6 and v7 is slight but the difference between v6 and v8 is considerable [especially Northern Ireland and Channel Islands] |

Thanks, but my problem is that the upgrade to v7 was free, but I have to pay for the upgrade to v8. It just seems wrong that I can't get hold of what I ordered and paid for. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay for the upgrade to v8.
Thanks for the help.

Sorry. I seem to have misunderstood what you wrote. You said that they sent you V8, and I assumed that it was usable as delivered. If they want to charge you to unlock it then I suggest that you try to make a personal contact with Garmin Customer Services and explain your situation. You should really not have to pay to unlock V8! _________________ Kam |

Everyone has to pay for v8 update unless they bought the previous version since January 2006! |

I have contacted Garmin - they simply repeat that v7 is no longer available, and I will have to purchase an unlock code for v8. Given that the unit and software cost around £400 I do feel disappointed that they couldn't be more helpful - I'm not asking for a free v8 code, merely the v7 software and code that I was promised. I'm pleased with my unit, but this whole experience has put me off Garmin - I would think twice before buying one again.
Hey-ho. I guess there's more important things to get worked up about!

But surely your argument is with aspidshop, not Garmin? _________________ Tim |
