|
|
Like some other users here, I have the GB PLUS maps installed but wanted to add maps for a holiday in Italy. I opted for the non-plus maps as I (a) already had the 'major roads of Western Europe' as part of my GB maps and (b) didn't have the additional 100Mb required spare on my SD card, but noted that this does not include any POI data for Italy at all.... (odd because the other maps I've looked at do). So I took a look at the installation filed for the PLUS maps of Italy and voila (!) there's a large POI file... I've just manually extracted it, copied it to my SD card (still with the non-plus map) and it appears to work well.
The steps I took were:
- Browsed the installation CD #5
- Opened the directory '\nveur5\map\itp'
- Opened the file 'Italia_Plus.CAB' using WinRar (I think Winzip will do it too)
- Copied the file '00000poi.010' to a temporary location (my desktop)
- Put my SD card into a card reader attached to my PC and opened the directory '\Italia-Map'
- Renamed 'Poi.dat' to 'Poi.old'
- Copied the file '00000poi.010' from my desktop to the SD card and renamed it to Poi.dat
That's it! HTH |

The absence of POI in the basic Italy map was remarked upon soon after release of TT5, but nobody, until now, has suggested a way of fixing it. The usual workaround was to use the Plus map. Well done!

The only problem I see with using the GB plus with the Italy (non +) is you will have to switch maps at some point. Not difficult I know but I found it better to use GB (non +) with the France plus.
Before leaving home I select France + and enter my destination where I will be shown an ETA, I'm then guided through GB on the MRE and on entering France I have Street level, within a few yards of leaving the train it has locked on and I'm on my merry way. 8)
Having said that, it was a nice 'workaround'. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

I guess it's horses for courses :-) I'll be flying into Italy and picking up a hire car so my aim was only to get access to mapping inside Italy, but both approaches appear to work. |

No problem!
A couple of different approaches will hopefully help the most people... I only posted when a thorough search didn't turn up any help |
