|
|
AS title.....after a fresh install, when in motion the movement on the screen is smooth. After I add some POIs the motion becomes jerky, ie a refresh every second or so.
I have a Ipaq 3715 and Globalsat BT338 running TT5.
Any ideas how I can add POIs but keep silky smooth animation? |

The jerky motion is a symptom of having to many POI's Enabled.
You don't have to Enable them to be able to use them. Even when when Disabled you can Navigate To ... , POI.
Do you want to see every location on the Navigation Screen as you're driving?
Use the 'Warn When Near' Option if you want to be aware of certain types of POI, as this doesn't give the described symptoms. _________________ Richard

I suspected this, but IIRC it happens even when the POIs are disabled. I don't bother having POIs enabled because it clutters up the map screen. |

Not sure what you mean by "enable". Try using the Hide Pois option in change preferences. That did it for me and my son's sat navs. _________________ Peter

This is a bug reported to TT within days of TT5 coming out. TT4 used the same graphics and POI system but could display over 8000 POIs on a 200Mhz machine without noticable delay. TT5 can't even cope with 12 POIs if display POIs is on. As wit hthe other bugs that stop TT5 working properly (but don't stop them marketting it for new devices) TT have done nothing to fix it in the updates they have released. |

Sorry if its been mentioned but I have a question to add to this topic. I have the same problem but the only POIs that I have enabled are the Speed cameras obtained from this website. If I disable them (so the animations is faster and smoother) will it still warn me if I come close to them?
Thank you _________________ Tcepser

yes. display of POI and POI warning are independent. _________________ Lutz

As Richard has said above, use the warn when near POI option rather than enabling all the POI's, you will still get a warning within the distance you specify when you set it all up - the warn when near POI is independent to the Enable POI option - Mike |

It seems to be quite a common problem, one which drives me mad, and is about to send me crawling back to TTN3. I find myself in a new city, and the map hasn't caught up with my location, so I don't know where to turn.
I just posted on this topic just now, with someone else who's having trouble with it:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=23323
I can resolve the problem by hiding POI's, and it becomes perfect with smooth intant updating of the screen, but I need to at least see the speed cameras, because sometimes the warnings are for cameras which are not even on your road, but one on a side road etc.
If indeed there is nothing that can be done about this, then TT should get their act together before people start to boycott TTN5 in favour of products that actually work. With mine in it's current status, it is as useful as an inflatable dart board. :D |

That is easily resolved. When the warning comes up look at the screen and it will show you the camera (with a flashing icon). You can then see if it on a side road or not - just as if you had show POIs enabled. _________________ Peter

Just wondering what the min process speed of a PPC needs to be in order to get TT5's animation running smooth with a few POI showing? |

I don't think it has anything to do with the process speed of a PPC. I think this is just a bug in TT5. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

The best thing to do is to use CheckPOInt v5 (free download). That can give warning of as many POIs as you want without slowing TomTom. Because of the flickering effect, which hasn't been fixed yet, diasable the warning screen. You will then get auduble warning as you approach the POI, and of course it shows up on the map

You don't require checkpoint. Just disable or hide all your POI's. The ones you want warnings for, just set warn when near and they will then give you a warning and show up on the map as you get near them without it messing up tomtom. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Is there a sound file available that as a silent option? I know I want a sound file to warn me of say speed cameras but if I use this workaround for say petrol stations I wouldn't want a sound playing but would still want the station to flash up. |
