never had a sat nav before but wife brought me one cause i passed me driving test on 15/03/06.
She got me the tomtom 700 and before this have never seen one or had one.Im impressed with it and i have added the cameras database from here but one question - is there anything to tell u the speed of the road
I know most are either 30 or 40 etc and sometimes the signs are not clearly visable but i was on a road the other day in bury and one road which i know was a 40 has suddenly become a 30.
Maybe sat nav cant do this sort of thing but i throught i would ask anyway if anyone has pulled it off.

it would be almost impossible for any system to tell you the speed limit of the road as all roads with their speeds would have to be programmed into the memory, this would be a nightmare to keep up to date with changes happening daily.

i also dont want to sound like an old man but i would be concerned if i believed that as a VERY NEW driver you were placeing alot of thought into the "works and how it can help you" Stop! of your sat nav.

driving is not a right and it will be removed easier than it took to get the privelage. you should know the speed of the road you are travelling on and most of all looking at what is going on around you and not at the sat nav screen.

i dont want to be the one that says "i told you so" Stop!

keep it safe and enjoy driving, after all getting lost is half the fun.

Remember, you passed your test and now considered to be competent enough to travel without a qualified driver sitting next to you. You now start learning HOW to drive.

Get a few reasonable leisurely runs in on your own, don't have people in the car distracting you. Watch out for other people making mistakes. Keep an eye on the car in front to see if he's doing something stupid. Learn from other peoples mistakes, not your own.

One of the most important things I was told when learning to drive, back in 1960, and it's stuck in my mind.

'If the car in front was a brick wall, could I stop'?

Congratulations on passing, look after yourself and take care, no one else will.

Don't forget, most accident's happen within 2 miles of where you live.

I don't have that problem....... I moved :P

And speaking as an ex Police Traffic Officer, you really ought to make it your business to know the prevailing speed limits. It's good practice and observation is a key driving skill.
