Determining Direction?

How does TTN5 (using the TT MkII Bluetooth GPS) work out direction?

Is it, as I suspect, by actually analysing the direction you are moving in, or can it figure it out if you are stood still?

My factory car nav knows exactly which direction I am facing but obviously has something fixed in it to determine this. I just couldn't figure out how TT could do this with a BT GPS which could be facing in a direction other than that you are travelling.

Even when you're moving TomTom doesn't always know which way you are facing. :P
