Subs for tom tom plus

I'm in the process in purchasing a Tom Tom One, after trying Garmin i3 and Navman iCN 520 without success, i3 was slow and the voice in the Navman was crap. When I do buy a Tom Tom I want to join Tom Tom Plus, but do you have to have a bluetooth phone to subcribe? Look forward to your answers. Many Thanks. :D
