Greetings all,

When launching TT5 a window appears to select the GPS device. I'm sure there is a way of automating this process but can't seem to find the information on it.

Can some kind soul point me in the right direction please.

Thanks

uk-Pedro

Welcome to the forum, to sort this first connect the GPS unit via the bluetooth manager and select the SSP option when asked, then configure tomtom go to the GPS settings and select Other BT GPS once this is done it should be OK, alternate settings are other cabled NMEA device, set Baud speed (look at the data sheet for yur GPS for this info) then select the outgoing Bluetooth port, it would help if you mention the hardware you are actualy trying to get to work - Mike

Thanks for the quick reply Mike.

I should have mentioned I am using iPaq 4150 and Rikaline BT gps. I have TT configured as you say with other NMEA and as such it asks to select the GPS from the paired devices list.

I know there is a way of making TT5 always choose the same BT GPS (instead of me) but I can't find the info... Maybe someone out there knows what I am talking about and can help?

Cheers

So long as you have connected to the GPS unit via Bluetooth manager before starting TomTom then the ipaq and tomtom will find the GPS, I have the ipaq4700 and that will not auto connect to the GPS from tomtom although I don't use it anymore for this application - Mike

Tea, that's the bit I would like to automate, either before launching TT or afterwards. There must be a way surely...

Have you paired the devices in BT Manager (not TT) on your PDA first. Should then be automatic.

Just for completeness, once you have the connection established it does work automatically, but it takes a while so a little patiance is required, the ipaq-4700 typically takes 8 seconds for TomTom to load, a further 6 seconds before the Bluetooth is enabled and then anything you like for the GPS to aquire a signal, 10 seconds or so. This whole opperation can take upto 30 Seconds before it appears to be doing anything so just wait.

This, BT Reg Tweak, helps a little:

Running GPSGate to handle the connection helps too:

This makes it easier turng BT On/Off from a larger button:

Now that's the sort of help I was thinking of.

Just for completeness, using an nmea gps means that when you start TT5 you are asked which bluetooth device you want to use as the GPS. This is the bit I wanted to automate (the selecting of my rikaline instead of the other bluetooth devices I have).

Many thanks schneid for you help.
