How do I transfer PIO's tagged on my eTrex GPS onto my laptop, and then transfer onto my TomTom ONE as POI's?

I was proposing to set a number of waypoints on the GPS as a route and introduce them as a set of POI's of a particular category.

Similarly I use Ordinance Survey software (Tracklogs.co.uk) to produce same and require similar transfers to and from. If you haven't looked at digital Ordinance Survey it is good kit!

For those of you wondering why - my wife does endurance riding and we use Ordinance survey software to map meeting points on remote road places. It would be nice to populate the TomTom with a set of meeting points without having to write it all out.

All help welcome - thanks.

Hi slartybardfast,

You clearly have a working link from your etrex to your PC to the OS software. Does the OS software allow you export your waypoints as a text file list?

To create a POI you need to create a file with the following format (see this post for more detail http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13821 )

; Longitude, Latitude, "Name"
-2.098369, 57.148931, "Aberdeen (Upperkirkgate)"
-2.105066, 57.144560, "Aberdeen (Union Street)"

It does not have to be exported in exactly this format as you can manipulate it or correct it in a text editor. This can then be converted into an OV2 file for import into your tomtom, again see the link above for a description of this process.

If your OS software does not allow you to export your waypoints reply back to here, there are many other freeware utilities that will allow you to export your garmin waypoints.....

Apologies to all my supporting users, the http://ukpostcodes.boldlygoingnowhere.org/ postcode converter has now been retired.
The ubiquity of full postcode lookups has made it somewhat redundant. I still have the code if anyone needs it.
