I intend to pay for the service when it goes subscription but I have two questions.
1) Why is a single contribution before the deadline worth lifetime free subscription yet after the deadline its worth just £2., surely new contributions have just as much value if not more in keeping the database accurate?
2) Why only credit for static cameras, surely mobile ones are just as valuable? |

I doubt that it is measured by worth. More to do with ownership of the data, where the existing database might be legally-seen as being owned by all of the previous contributors. Subsequent contributors would be donating under different terms.

Anybody could make up mobile cameras to get subscription credit, and they are virtually impossible to verify. _________________ Ian

TomTom charge over twice the GPSW subscription, issue updates very infrequently and it is obvious that they are totally dependant upon error reports from their subscribers. Furthermore their database is unreliable and that is the only criterium worth considering. Subscribers report errors because even having contributed cash they still have altruistic feelings about a service upon which they rely. £1.58 per month seems value just for the distribution of the database. Too many people worry about how much money others are going to make. Have we not got a great database and for which others are charging twice as much for nothing worth having? I'm going to get Gordon Brown to help pay the subscription so it's an even better bargain than it appears at first. |

I think you're more or less right with what you say Ian, however, if this were the case wouldn't PGPSW have to have exclusive permission off the contributors to charge for it? I know one guy who contributed has asked for his data to be removed but I don't know if this has been (or will be) done. Having a problem getting my head around how all this is going to work, legally or not.

Since the location of safety cameras is obviously data already very much in the public domain, I doubt very much whether individual contributors could assert any form of ownership in regard to their contributions.
