I downloaded & unzip the correct file from the tomtom site, connected my TTGo 500 to pc & connected to mains power. Tried to run the upgrade, it got to @ 35% & the status bar stopped, left it alone for about 10 mins & nothing happened. So disconnected from pc & the TTG had frozen - had to press the reset at bottom of unit. Restarted TTG & had a card error type icon. Good job I made a back up of the original card :D and I was able to restore it. Tried this 4 times in total and same thing happened each time. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong or how I can fix this problem ?

Try downloading a new update from the Tom Tom site making sure its for your 500. The first one might be corrupt.

Thanks - tried it with the Version 5.420 for Windows (EXE) and it worked, it was the Version 5.420 for Windows (ZIP) I tried earlier.

Hello fellas. This thread is interesting to me as I bought my TTG300 two weeks ago and it has the 5.410 firmware. Can someone let me know if there is any benefit in updating to 5.420?

If I were to update would I need to reload the PGPS safety cameras files?

From the download page:
Quote:
What's new in 5.420?

- It's even easier to start a Traffic trial on your device.
- After setting up TomTom Traffic, it is automatically enabled.
- Streets with the same name in towns that are close together are not confused in this version.
- The quality of the sound has been optimised when using hands-free calling (GO 500 and 700).
- Version 5.420 is compatible with more mobile phones.
- All entries in the phonebook, on mobile phones compatible with this feature, are now transferred to your TomTom device, no matter where they are stored.

No, but you will lose any custom alert sounds or voices, as a new data.chk is included in the install. Scared the hell out of me when I got the first cow noise after upgrading! Laughing

Cheers Andy. I am still new to all this so I may give it some more consideration before I take the plunge.

On a 300 (which doesn't have all the hands-free phone stuff) and if you're not using Traffic, I doubt you'd notice any difference.

(Unless you've been bothered by the "Streets with the same name in towns that are close together are not confused in this version" issue - I haven't so far).
