|
Hi, I bought my i3 from staples just over a week ago and I made sure I got one with V8 maps (it said on the box)
Having a play with the settings, I turn the unit on, go to settings map Map source
And it says:
City Select Europe
NT V7
Does that mean that it actually has V7 maps?
Any help would be really appriciated, thanks. |

Hi new to this myself, but, so I'm told, if it is showing v7 on the map source page you have the v7 map. |

Hmmm it says V8 on the box, won't be happy if this does mean it's in fact V7. |

Seems that the unit doesn't belong to its box. Not a major problem if you could understand why the box was replaced as you can now get a free map update. |

Bit of an inconvenience though when I went out of my way (different stores) to make sure I got V8 |

Jamie
Had same prob with staples myself just last week, box was v8 maps and when i checked map source it was nt v7.
Took it back and changed it for another one, turned out that someone had put wrong unit in wrong box (they were happy to change it for me)..
Take it back and take two AA batteries with you to fire up and check map source on new unit, thats what i did, no point in sending away for free upgrade as you are entitled to have unit stated on box and why should you have the hassle of that when you went out of your way to find one with v8 maps.
Had no probs with our local staples (gt yarmouth) and they changed it straight away. Paid £97 for it as dixons and currys do it for £99 and they price matched it ok.
Good luck :D |

Bought mine from Halfords this week. It said v8 on the box, and under Map Source it says City Navigator Europe NT+ v8
Looks like yours was put in the wrong box

Paul, thank you so much for that :D I got mine from Gt Yarmouth too (hmm, do they employ monkeys there) so will give them a ring in the morning to see if they still have any in stock to replace it. Out of interest, when did you do the price match? when you bought it or when you swapped it? I paid £119 as I couldn't find anywhere with it in stock for £99.
Thanks. |

Just create a new text file with the Windows default Notepad, then just add the line:
0,0,"No POI Loaded"
then save the file as:
no_poi.csv
then upload it to the i3, if you try and browse to it it will look like it has never had any poi's loaded at all as PoiLoader will delete ALL of the existing poi files and just add that one which cannot be seen. |

Well, staples couldn't be much more unhelpful :x phoned up Gt Yarmouth, they don't have the V8 in stock and say they haven't had any of them, which I know is not true. Said I could take it back for a refund, so a 50 mile round trip and I end up with nothing! I paid £120 and didn't get what it said on the box, I told him about the upgrade I can get from Garmin (he didn't know it's currently free) and they would not even re-compensate some of the fee for if there was a cost incurred :x said I would just have to pay it, anyway, they then said to try the Norwich store as they are much bigger and might have the V8 in. Got the same story from them, apart from the bloke in there said I can just download the V8 maps from Garmin, wrong again I think? I said that I heard the upgrade to V8 was £80 or $80 (which I did and I think that was the case last month?) and they still said thats not their problem and they can't do anything about it.
So my two options are to take it back, having wasted 2 days of my week, get a refund so end up with nothing.
Or send the card to Garmin for an update.
What should I do? no one does it cheaper than Staples I don't think so should I just send it off? I know thats the obvious choice, but as a matter of principal, I don't see why I should be inconvenienced by a mistake made by Staples, who didn't even try to put it right, either way I'm the one who ends up having to pay for their problem, won't be shopping there again. |

You could always threaten to go to your local Trading Standards Office - selling a V7 on the obvious pretense of it being a V8 (i.e. the box said it was V8 when it wasn't) is surely against the law. |

I said to them on the phone that surley they can't sell something as a new version when it's actually the old one, but he didn't really sound to bothered. |

Jamie
Have checked staples and they only have 2 left and they are both version 7 they said you could have a refund if you like.
Only other place that had them was Asda at £ 148 but not sure if they have any now and if they would price match.
Ok have phoned about yarmouth and Halfords have some in stock and they are v8, also they will price match yours if you want to return yours to staples, this is at 14.16 today.
If you wanna ring halfords to reserve one the number is 01493 441436 and is open till 6 today
Hope this is of some help for you :D |
