No GPS device!

I have been using TomTom Mobile on my SPV C500 for some time with a bluetooth GPS receiver with no problems until now.
I recently had to get an exchange phone (another C500) from Orange because of a fault in the screen.
My problem is that I now can't get TomTom to connect to the GPS. I get a message saying that there is no GPS device.
I have tried removing all bluetooth devices from my phone and reconnecting the GPS reciever and setting the outgoing COM port to 7 but still with no success.
I know that the GPS device is working, as my wife has TomTom Navigator on her SPV M1000 and it works with that.
I will be grateful for any advice that anyone can offer.
