|
|
Hi trying to set up my ipaq 5450 pda with tomtom 5, have downloaded the speed camera database ( speed limit zones ) have asked for advice on the other forum regards actually setting up this particular facilty ( displayed speed limit warnings ) if anyone can help ??
also looking to set the alert distance settings for the various speed cameras, anyone fancy sharing there own personal settings for the following types off cameras ??
1/ gatso 30-40-50-60-70 mph
2/laser cameras ( would think a large warning distance with the way these lasers can pick up car ie up to .5 mile away
3/red light cameras
anyone help me out re the above, would certainly be very much appreciatted. |

Anyway jono400, you say you will set your gatso's and red light at 350-400 yards but I don't think this is enough for all Gatso's.
Working on an idea by mikealder, I calculated the distances required to give 30, 20, 15 and 10 seconds warning.
Quote: | These are the figures I recommend using...
Mph - 30s - 20s - 15s - 10secs warning.
70 - 1173- 782 - 587 - 391 yards
60 - 1026- 684 - 513 - 342
50 - 879 - 586 - 440 - 293
40 - 732 - 488 - 366 - 244
30 - 588 - 392 - 294 - 196
20 - 441 - 294 - 221 - 147
Red Light 275 |
I built in a buffer e.g. a thirty second warning for 70mph is actually 1026 yards but have used the 80mph 30 second warning, which is 1173 yards.
I did the same for all speeds at 30, 20, 15 and 10 second warnigs.
I've recommended 275 yards for a red light camera, although to be honest I feel the traffic lights are a bit of a givaway.
For temp cameras it's down to choice.
Personally I've given myself a 15 second warning and used the appropriate distances, and for Temp Cameras I use 440 yards, as Temp cameras are usually at roadworks and the temp speeds are usually 40 or 50mph. (15 secs and 440 yards, because of the built in buffer, is actually good for up tp 60mph)
Hope this has helped. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

| I understand there will be a new database to cover WARNIGS. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

which one do i pick ?
i want it to tell me what speed the camera is so if i pick 30 will all gatco cameras say 30? |

It all depends which installation of the camera database you have installed, if you have the "consolidated by type" database where you are warned as per the device then the speed data is not relevent.
Assuming you are using the "Speed Zonned" database then the warnings do have a meaning, for example select the gatso 30 camera POI within warn when near POI and assign the correct spoken command, use the "Test" button to locate the corresponding alert to the camera type you have that single camera type/ speed set up.
Then repeat this for the remaining camera POI files, it might help to write them down, and tick them off one at a time as you go through this, with practise it takes a few mins at the very most - Mike |

If you have the single file version it will not display the cameras by type or speed, you need to download the "Speed Zonned" camara database, install it then configure this - its well worth it in the end - Mike |
