Maps? They cost how much?

Hello,

I've spent hours researching and I'm nowhere. I want to use an automotive GPS in parts of North America and parts of Europe. Do I really have to buy a unit with one or the other continent and then pay over $300 for the other maps?

Ideally I would like a Garmin i5 or i3 or a Roadmate 700. Something small and simple.
I had a Tom Tom and nothing but problems.

And do I have to buy the whole of Europe? I can't just buy cards for each country and slot them in? Because I have a MAC not a PC and that's a whole new set of problems.
