I have an XDA 2i, I keep seeing for the various software around, various different types of processors.
I have looked in the manual and I am none the wiser, so what is the difference between, ARM, Mips, Xscale etc.
and more importantly what is the XDA??? |

XScale (that's what the XDA has) is the Intel version of a ARM processor . So all ARM programs run on it.
MIPS is a different story, and only few programs specially compiled for Pocket PC 2000 may have a MIPS version.
All of the 2003 and up PDAs have ARM compatible processors. _________________ Lutz

Hi Lutz,
So what you are saying is that ARM will work, although strictly speaking the processor is an XSCALE??
Thanks for the prompt reply |

Yes. Very few vendors have actually gone the extra mile to use the XScale specific improvements. Most of the time those fancy XScale processors are kept busy emulating the "old" ARM microcode.
This can lead to scenarios where a 200 MHz Arm processor based device is perceived to be faster than a 400 MHz XScale based device... _________________ Lutz
